Manufacturers and plant builders design and build biogas plants turnkey or by trade: digesters, digestate storage, gas storage, mixing, feeding and control systems. Farms with plenty of slurry often look at compact plants up to 150 kW installed capacity, which are paid under section 44 of the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).

Planning and engineering firms assess the site, feedstock base and economics, prepare permit applications and support tendering, construction and commissioning. Many also advise existing plants on flexible operation, repowering or what to do once EEG payments end.

Service companies keep biogas plants and combined heat and power (CHP) units running: CHP maintenance and engine overhauls, mixers and pumps, electrical and control systems, gas analysis and biological process support. Reliable service drives full-load hours and therefore revenue.

Experts and inspection bodies assess biogas plants, CHP units and gas installations, check safety requirements and issue certificates, for example as environmental verifiers for EEG billing. Only firms with a recognisable energy, plant or environmental focus are listed here.

Biomethane is raw biogas upgraded to natural gas quality. Companies in this field build upgrading technology, operate grid injection plants or trade biomethane. For a single farm plant this is usually too large, but it can be an option for farm clusters with a shared gas pipeline.

Wood chip and pellet boilers are the second pillar of bioenergy on many farms: wood from the farm's own forest and hedges becomes heat for the farmhouse, barns, drying or a small district heating network. Listed are boiler manufacturers, installers and suppliers of wood chips and pellets.

Agricultural contractors haul slurry and digestate, spread it close to the ground, harvest and ensile feedstocks, and run separation or manure exchanges. For biogas plants they are often the most important day-to-day partner.
